Unlock a PDF

Remove owner-level restrictions — like blocked printing, copying, or editing — from a PDF you're already able to open.

Important: This tool removes restrictions from PDFs that open without a password but have printing/copying/editing locked by the owner. It does not crack or remove a password required to open a file — that's intentionally not something this tool does.

The difference between "open" and "owner" passwords

PDFs can have two separate kinds of protection. An open password is required just to view the file at all. An owner password lets anyone open and read the file, but restricts actions like printing, copying text, or editing — this is the kind of restriction this tool removes.

Why this tool doesn't remove open passwords

Removing a password required just to open a file would mean bypassing the file owner's core access control, which raises legitimate concerns about unauthorized access to documents you don't have permission to view. This tool only works on files you can already open.

Frequently asked questions

My PDF asks for a password before it even opens — can this help?

No — that's an open password, which this tool does not remove. If you don't know the password, you'll need to get it from whoever created the file.

What restrictions can this remove?

Owner-level restrictions such as disabled printing, copying, form-filling, or editing — the kind of protections set to control what people can do with a file they can already open and read.
