Why this happens
Sideways pages usually come from one of two sources: a scanner fed a page in landscape orientation while set to portrait mode, or a page inserted into an existing document without matching the surrounding orientation. Neither means the content itself is damaged — the page just needs its rotation corrected.
Rotation, not re-scanning
The fix doesn't require finding the original document and re-scanning — a rotation tool simply changes how each page displays, turning it 90°, 180°, or 270° as needed, without touching the actual content underneath.
How to know which angle you need
- 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise: the page reads sideways, with text running top-to-bottom or bottom-to-top.
- 180°: the page is fully upside down.
If you're not sure, try one rotation and check the preview — it's a quick trial and error if the first guess isn't right.
Whole document or single pages
If every page in a scanned document came out sideways, applying one rotation to the whole file fixes it in one step. If only a few specific pages are affected (common when a document was assembled from multiple scans), you'll want a tool that lets you target individual pages.
Fix your file
The PDFGuy Rotate PDF tool rotates every page in a document by 90°, 180°, or 270° in one click, entirely in your browser.
