Quick answer
- Open the Split PDF Pages in Half tool and upload your file.
- Pick Left/Right for side-by-side spreads, or Top/Bottom for stacked ones.
- Click "Cut Pages in Half." Your PDF downloads with every page divided in two.
Why scans end up like this
When a book, magazine, or catalog is scanned flat on a copier, both facing pages land on a single scanned sheet. That's fine for printing, but on a phone or tablet it means zooming in just to read one side. Splitting each sheet down the middle turns it back into a normal, single-page sequence.
Left/right vs top/bottom
Most book and catalog scans need a left/right split, since the two pages sit side by side. A top/bottom split is for layouts where content is stacked vertically on one sheet, like some slide handouts or agendas.
If the fold isn't centered
Scanned books rarely sit perfectly straight. If the cut lands slightly on the wrong side of the text, nudge the cut-position slider a few percent until the line matches the fold, then cut again.
Keeping a cover page intact
Books often have a single cover page before the spreads start. Tick "Leave page 1 as it is" so the cover isn't cut in half along with the rest.
Does this lose quality?
No. The tool doesn't re-render or recompress anything — it just changes which part of each original page is shown, so both halves look exactly as sharp as the source scan.
